VUENOW DETAILS PLANS TO CONSTRUCT DOZENS OF EDGE DATA CENTRES

PRESS RELEASE: VueNow is proposing to build dozens of edge data centres across the Indian state of Bihar, although this proposal is as yet some way from the approval stage.

The Business Standard news service says that the state information technology department has received a proposal entailing investment worth Rs817 crore ($107 million) to establish the data centres across the state.

VueNow is proposing to develop a 100-rack, 1.2MW facility in Patna, which will be the master hub. Four other facilities are proposed – in Dharbhanga, Bhagalpur, Purnea, and Buxar – in the first phase, totalling 2.4MW, according to an official statement.

It has been reported that a total of 40 edge facilities could be developed. The phase two plan includes two hub locations and 10 edge data centres, along with a further 24 facilities in the third phase.

The proposal still needs to be finalised and then go to the chief minister's office for final approval. According to Jibesh Kumar, minister of information and technology of the government of Bihar, there should be no problem with state government support for investors –

“Our aim is to make Bihar the next IT hub of the eastern region”.

The Business Standard says the firm has already started working on similar projects in West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh.
