NTT OPENS NEW DATA CENTRE FACILITY THAT CLAIMS WILL BE NET-ZERO BY 2030
PRESS RELEASE: NTT has unveiled its newest data centre campus at Mahape, Navi Mumbai, and its first data centre called NAV1A. The data centre is spread across 400,000 square feet and will offer the capacity to host 5,000 racks and support over 30 MW of IT load.
The newly launched data centre campus is expected to have a facility freeload of up to 150 MW. NTT is already working on three more data centres on the campus.
With the launch of its facility, NTT’s data centre footprint in India goes up to 12 facilities with more than 2.5 million square feet and 220 MW of facility power. In Mumbai alone, the company has three data centre campuses. They also have three more campuses in Noida, Bangalore and Chennai.
In a virtual press conference, Sharad Sanghi, managing director of NTT Ltd., said, “Our project teams are working extremely hard to develop these data centre parks. We’ve already got commitments from anchor customers in most of these parks.”
The company has also vowed to be net-zero by 2030. In this regard, Sanghi said, “We want to make sure that they use renewable energy, and we’ve announced globally that by 2030, all the data centres will be carbon neutral. So this is a responsibility that we’ve taken. We’ve already set up multiple renewable energy plants, captive plants at Maharashtra and Karnataka, and in some of the other states.”
Masaaki Moribayashi, president and board director of Global Data Centres, NTT, said that this new campus is a part of the company’s overall commitment of USD 2 billion to build and develop data centre parks in India.
When asked if the data centres’ boom in India is creating a lot of jobs, Sanghi concurred. However, he did acknowledge that there is a talent pool crunch when it comes to designing data centres, especially in the mechanical and electrical areas.
