The Daikin UK Manchester team recently took part in their first Daikin Difference Day, volunteering alongside environmental charity Groundwork at Boarshaw Clough in Middleton.
Boarshaw Clough is a well-loved local green space and nature trail that provides residents with a place to enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature and support local biodiversity. As part of Daikin UK’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates, the team dedicated the day to helping maintain and improve this valuable community asset.
Working closely with Groundwork, volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into a variety of practical conservation tasks. The team spent the day stripping and piling willow, which will be repurposed for community craft projects, while also tackling overgrown areas and cleaning statues along the nature trail. Their efforts made an immediate and visible difference, helping to enhance the site for the many people who visit and enjoy it throughout the year.
While the physical improvements were rewarding, the day also provided an opportunity for colleagues to connect in a different environment, strengthen relationships and contribute to a meaningful local cause.
Reflecting on the experience, Fraser Lancaster from Daikin UK said: “I came away feeling that I’d made a positive difference. It was a great opportunity to work with colleagues I wouldn’t normally work with, improve my wellbeing and feel more connected to the local community.”
The volunteering day highlights the wider purpose of Daikin Difference Days, which are designed to create positive impacts both within local communities and among employees themselves. By stepping away from their usual roles and working together on community-focused projects, colleagues can develop stronger connections while supporting causes that matter locally.
A huge thank you goes to Team Manchester and Groundwork for making the day such a success. And this is only the beginning, with three more Daikin Difference Days taking place across Daikin UK offices throughout September.
ABOUT DAIKIN

Daikin Data Centre Cooling Solutions
Daikin develops cooling technologies for data centres, delivering thermal management solutions that help operators maintain reliable environmental conditions while improving energy efficiency and reducing operating costs. Its portfolio supports facilities ranging from enterprise server rooms to hyperscale data centres with systems designed for continuous operation and high availability.
The company’s data centre offering includes air-cooled and free cooling chillers, Computer Room Air Handling (CRAH) units, intelligent cooling controls and cloud-based monitoring services. These solutions are engineered to provide precise temperature and humidity control, helping operators protect critical IT equipment while supporting operational resilience. Daikin systems also integrate with Building Management Systems (BMS) through protocols including BACnet, Modbus, KNX and LonWorks, enabling centralised monitoring and control of cooling infrastructure.
For larger facilities, Daikin offers dedicated cooling platforms incorporating inverter-driven screw compressors, free cooling technology and intelligent sequencing to optimise performance under varying load conditions. The company’s Intelligent Data Centre Manager (iDCM) platform uses integrated controls and machine learning algorithms to manage multiple chillers, helping improve energy efficiency, reduce PUE and optimise plant operation while maintaining cooling resilience.
Daikin’s CRAH units are designed for medium, large and hyperscale data centres, with modular configurations that support raised floor and hard floor deployments. Features including EC fan technology, pressure-independent control valves, active harmonic filters and advanced control strategies help improve airflow management, operational efficiency and equipment reliability. The company also offers free cooling chiller technology capable of reducing compressor operation during favourable ambient conditions, lowering energy consumption and operating costs.
Supporting its equipment portfolio, Daikin provides remote monitoring, preventive maintenance, equipment servicing and temporary rental cooling solutions for planned maintenance, facility expansion and contingency planning. Its Daikin on Site cloud platform delivers 24/7 monitoring, energy analysis and predictive maintenance to help operators maximise cooling system availability and performance throughout the lifecycle of their infrastructure.
