YANDEX HAS DATA CENTRE DISCONNECTED FROM GRID DUE TO RUSSIAN SANCTIONS
PRESS RELEASE: The Finland-based data centre of the Russian internet company Yandex has been disconnected from power supplies by the power company Nivos Energia, reports Prime. The data centre in the town of Mantsala still continues its operations using a diesel power generator.
Nivos Energia had earlier announced that it will disconnect the data centre if Yandex was covered by sanctions against Russia.
The company president at Nivos Energia, Marco Ali, said that if Yandex is included in the sanctions lists, the company will cease cooperation with Yandex Oy, a legal entity registered in Finland. As it turned out, since then and to the present moment, the data centre has been operating from a backup power source – a diesel generator.
Yandex owns five data centres in Finland. The data centre in Mantsala was built in 2014 to support work with foreign companies.
“The data centre in Finland continues to operate. All of our services are operating normally. Now we are in the process of renewing the contract with the energy supplier, temporarily the data centre is running on its own diesel generators.”
