SUPERNAP LAUNCHES NEW HYPERSCALE DATA CENTRE

PRESS RELEASE: Supernap Italia has officially opened its second hyperscale data centre on its Milan (Siziano) campus.

The new data centre joins Supernap’s first location at the campus, which began construction in 2015. The company’s latest addition comprises two independent data halls, which brings the total size of the Supernap campus to 100,000 sqm and offering 40 MW of power.

Supernap was created in 2015 as a European arm of Switch, a Las Vegas-based data centre provider known for its flashy data centres. The company was a joint venture with a variety of investment companies, including ACDC Fund, Orascom TMT Investments, and Accelero Capital, until its acquisition by IPI Partners earlier this year.

That acquisition has given the company extra capital to expand even further, with the firm recently purchasing two land parcels adjacent to its existing campus, which will support three data centres totalling 35 MW of incremental capacity, bringing SUPE Supernap‘s RNAP’s total Milan capacity to 75 MW. The first of the new data centres is expected to be operational by mid-2022.

“Six years ago, we set out to develop and operate Europe’s most advanced data centre. With the completion of our second facility, we’ve brought our initial investment and campus vision full circle,” said Sherif Rizkalla, CEO of Supernap Italia.

“Today, we directly employ more than 50 highly talented individuals and serve some of the world’s most important hyperscale cloud providers right here in Siziano. We are proud of the incredible progress we’ve made and are committed to further investment in the region to provide our customers with a runway for future growth.”
