PROGRESSUM ENERGY DEVELOPMENTS LAUNCHES 100% SOLAR POWERED DATA CENTRE
PRESS RELEASE: Progressum Energy Developments, a subsidiary of BWB, has developed the first data centre powered 100% by photovoltaic renewable energy in the Community of Aragon . The company has been advised by Colliers .
Progressum is developing 4 solar plants in the province of Zaragoza, with a combined capacity of 178MW. These plants will connect to the Peñaflor substation and will also serve to self-supply the new data centre that the company itself will develop on a plot located in the Huesca Logistics Platform. The total investment in the project amounts to €230M, of which €130M will be allocated to the development of the new data centre.
“Energy is a key and differentiating element in the development of data centres. Progressum contributes its know-how in photovoltaic projects, integrating the generation of renewable energy as a backbone of its proposal for the data centre market. The Colliers Data Centres team has advised us from the beginning of the project on aspects such as the conceptual design of the building, the purchase of land or the preparation of a business plan for the construction of the asset. This transaction is the best example of the excellent synergies that can be created between the logistics market, the data centre market and the energy sector”, comments José María Guilleuma, Director of Data Centres at Colliers .
This data centre project is at the forefront of current developments in this market, as it will be powered 100% by photovoltaic energy generated by solar plants. It will also be eco-sustainable , since it has large-scale batteries to reduce energy costs during peak hours, aerothermal energy for cooling, and it will use construction materials with a neutral carbon footprint.
