Regant Oy is planning to establish a data centre in Mikkeli. The City of Mikkeli will lease the company a five-hectare plot in the Visulahti industrial area.

Mikkeli has been actively working to attract companies and promote investment. In addition to Regant Oy, two other data centre companies are planning to locate in the same area.

Topiantti Äikäs, Director of Land Use and Urban Planning for the City of Mikkeli, is pleased with Regant Oy’s decision to choose Mikkeli.

“It very much looks like Visulahti is emerging as a significant cluster for digital infrastructure,” says Äikäs.

The Visulahti industrial area already has zoning in place that allows for data centre construction. The area is well connected to a robust power grid, and Fingrid’s national transmission network runs nearby, offering ample connection capacity.

“It was a pleasure to find such a competitive site for the needs of our data centre. The collaboration with the City of Mikkeli and Mikkeli Development Miksei Ltd has been excellent,” says Matti-Juho Ervasti, CEO of Regant Oy.

Ervasti confirms that the final scope and specifications of the new data centre will be determined as planning progresses. The leased plot has more than 24,000 square metres of building rights, enabling the construction of a large-scale data centre.

The City of Mikkeli made the official land lease decision. The lease agreement will be signed after the appeal period.

Data centres are a key part of digital infrastructure and essential for the functioning of a digital society and business operations. They also lay the foundation for the development and expansion of artificial intelligence.
