ASSA ABLOY’s new Aperio® KS100 data rack lock has been unveiled as the new benchmark in physically protecting data centres and the information they hold.

Visitors to the DCME GOES VIRTUAL International Conference & Exhibition will be able to explore the new lock, which will be compatible with more than 100 existing access control systems, allows users to manage, monitor and physically control access to sever centres, rooms and racks.

While most organisations defend their data against digital attacks, server rooms and server racks are typically less well defended against physical breaches – whether accidental or malicious.

Designed for use in the server area entrance and across server racks, drawers and cabinets, the Aperio KS100 is a low cost, easy to use solution. It is ideal for retrofit installation and can be scaled to any size requirement.

The lock reduces the risk of lost or misplaced keys and restricts access to authorised users only, with audit trails and real-time monitoring for additional accountability. It can also function in a range of states including unlock, lock and temporary unlock, and via online and offline integration.

In addition to the commercial requirements to safeguard data, there are legal obligations to control who has access to stored information. The Aperio KS100 can be integrated to the existing access control system to comply with Data Protection obligations.

Jenny Littlewood, CNI Market Development Manager at Abloy UK, said: “The challenges of data protection intensify daily. Big data is on the rise and increasingly it’s housed in large, co-located data centres, highlighting an urgent need to protect data from authorised access.

“How secure is your data? Do you know who accessed your server cabinets – and when? We’ve designed the Aperio KS100 to tackle these access issues, resulting in a robust physical security system that will give peace of mind.”
