A number of leading media websites are currently not working, including the Guardian, Financial Times, Independent and the New York Times.
The UK government website – gov.uk – is also down.
Updated 11.50 Amazon, Reddit and Twitch are also suffering outages
Affected websites displayed the message: “Error 503 Service Unavailable”.
Early reports have suggested it could be related to Fastly, a cloud computing provider, which underpins a lot of major websites.

A ‘500' error indicates a server issue. Generally the server that supports the website in the cloud is interrupted. These issues are generally resolved quickly as downtime is unexpected and unacceptable for many of these services.
Fastly is a USA based cloud provider, perhaps this is an indication UK services should be depending more greatly on local could resources?
