EDGE CENTRES DETAILS PLAN TO BUILD MULTIPLE EDGE DATA CENTRE FACILITIES IN REGION

PRESS RELEASE: Edge Centres has announced that it has begun building its first facilities outside Australia, is adding Vietnam to its portfolio.

In collaboration with the Vietnam National University (VNU) in Ho Chi Minh City, Edge Centres is planning the EC51 data centre, which will open in the next 20 weeks once works on the campus are completed. This collaboration is said to be the first of its kind in Vietnam and, appropriately enough, is coming to a university with dedicated AI centre training and a large start-up area supporting new companies and their technologies.

Edge Centres announced that it will deliver the first solar-powered data centres in Vietnam, allowing students to not only deliver IT projects but also to learn about the company’s technology. Development of additional sites, presumably also connected to the university, in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City, Danang and Hanoi is also underway. Opportunities to expand at other university campuses are being explored, according to the company.

As the Data Centre Dynamics website explains, Edge Centres provides modular ‘off grid’ data centres powered by on-site wind and/or solar power and connected to the main grid as backup.

Each facility is equipped with just under 1MW of solar infrastructure, and 48-hour battery, and UPS backup equipment, which supports 64 1kW quarter racks. The company says the sites can produce more electricity than they use.

EC31 in Kuala Lumpur, the company’s first project outside Australia, is under way. Other sites in Malaysia, as well as Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, and Vietnam, are planned or being assessed.
